Environmentalist, Athlete, & Writer

Simply put, I love our planet! Growing up in California, I’ve been fortunate enough to spend time in nature, learn from it, and become aware of our shared responsibility to look after it. While working towards my interdisciplinary degree in Sustainability, I took on a variety of projects involving research, data collection and analysis, strategic communication, environmental policy, and the broader concepts of environmental ethics and philosophy. All the while, I was playing on a top 25 Division I volleyball team, where I saw the power that a healthy team culture can have on the road to success. As a sustainability professional, I hope to apply these experiences and skills to environmental projects and initiatives, helping organizations and communities meet their climate goals through the development of creative strategies and actionable plans. Those who have the privilege to know, have the duty to act.”

I began my higher education at Pepperdine University as a Biology major, and my pursuit of the sciences helped me discover my passion for environmentalism. After a summer abroad studying sustainability in Kaikoura, New Zealand, I became invested in my university’s small, but growing environmental movement. I loved the Sustainability minor and everything I was learning through it, and I knew that I needed to alter my education path to reflect my passion. I decided to take a leap and be one of the first few students to pursue this discipline as a contract major, hoping to see the Sustainability major become official before graduating. In 2022, after ardent student, faculty, and administrative collaboration, our tight-knit group achieved our goal! I am proud to be one of seven students in an all-female class to be the first to graduate from Pepperdine with a Bachelor of Arts in Sustainability. The Sustainability major is now officially offered as an education pathway at Pepperdine University, and our community is continuing to grow.
